Annual Drug Burning Ceremony Held by the Regional Directorate Anti-Narcotics Force

17 February 2026The Annual Drug Destruction Ceremony was organized by the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF). The ceremony was attended by the Guest of Honor for Counter-Narcotics, Director General ANF, Major General Abdul Mueed, HI (M).In addition, a large number of civil and military officers, representatives of various law enforcement agencies, heads of universities and colleges, students, and members of NGOs participated in the event.The ceremony commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran. The Force Commander ANF Punjab, in his opening remarks, welcomed the participants and highlighted the efforts and performance of the Anti-Narcotics Force in translating the vision of a drug-free society into reality.In his address, he stated that ANF organizes an annual destruction ceremony of seized narcotics to reaffirm collective resolve with the public against drug abuse and trafficking. He emphasized that if members of civil society join hands with government institutions in this struggle, the menace of drugs can be effectively curtailed.This year, a total of 25.199 tons of narcotics were destroyed, including:

  • 445.676 kg of Heroin
  • 11,386.714 kg of Hashish
  • 900.755 kg of Opium
  • 101.839 kg of Ice (Methamphetamine)
  • 0.775 kg of Cocaine
  • 0.775 kg of Ecstasy Tablets
  • 12,291.81 kg of Cannabis
  • Various other narcotic substances

During the year so far, ANF Punjab registered 463 cases against drug traffickers and arrested 590 individuals. The Special Anti-Narcotics Court awarded two death sentences, 35 life imprisonments, and 120 other convictions to offenders. Furthermore, approximately 1,000 awareness programs were conducted to educate the public, particularly youth, about the dangers of drug abuse.At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Director General ANF addressed the audience, stating that despite limited manpower and resources, the Anti-Narcotics Force continues indiscriminate operations against elements involved in the illicit drug trade. Alongside enforcement operations, ANF is actively engaged in awareness campaigns and provides treatment facilities for drug addicts as part of its comprehensive strategy against narcotics.He further stated that the drugs destroyed today were either intended for domestic consumption or international smuggling, and were seized through the dedicated efforts of ANF and other law enforcement personnel who risked their lives in the line of duty.Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment, he emphasized that the expectations of the international community in this global fight against narcotics are of great importance, and Pakistan remains resolute in upholding international laws and United Nations conventions.
