Lahore: On the occasion of International Thalassemia Day, a special awareness seminar was organized at the Punjab Assembly under the auspices of Sundas Foundation. Speaker Punjab Assembly, Malik Ahmad Khan, attended the seminar as the chief guest. The event focused on thalassemia prevention, improved patient care, and raising public awareness about the disease.The seminar was attended by Sundas Foundation Founder and President Muhammad Yasin Khan, Director Khalid Abbas Dar, members of the assembly, social personalities, doctors, and individuals from various walks of life.Addressing the seminar, Muhammad Yasin Khan stated that the Punjab Assembly’s legislation to make thalassemia testing mandatory before marriage is a historic initiative that will significantly help reduce the number of children born with thalassemia in the future. He said that Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Ahmad Khan played a vital role in the approval of this legislation, which was unanimously supported by the Punjab Assembly.He further emphasized that thalassemia prevention is possible through timely diagnosis and public awareness. He added that Sundas Foundation has been providing free treatment and blood transfusion facilities to patients suffering from blood disorders for many years.On this occasion, Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Ahmad Khan paid tribute to the services of Sundas Foundation, stating that the organization has been serving humanity for the past three decades and continues to provide treatment to thousands of thalassemia patients. He noted that Sundas Foundation centers established across Lahore and other parts of the country are offering modern and quality healthcare facilities to patients coming from remote areas.The Speaker assured that the government and the Punjab Assembly will continue extending full support to Sundas Foundation in the future to effectively combat deadly diseases like thalassemia.At the conclusion of the seminar, Sundas Foundation Director Khalid Abbas Dar thanked the Speaker Punjab Assembly, guests, and participants, while stressing that collective awareness and preventive measures are essential to control thalassemia. He urged people to undergo thalassemia screening before marriage in order to protect future generations from the disease.Awareness material regarding thalassemia was also distributed during the seminar, while participants appreciated the legislation and social awareness efforts aimed at preventing the disease.
